THINK FALL. rich, vivid, and muted tones. khakis, chiffons, silks, and a hint of fur. lace and sheer materials. exercised use of vintage to new. embellished tights and wood bangles. our color palette ranges from muted yellows to rich and deep browns. our fabric use is expansive and innovative. the silhouettes range from loose fitted to hugging the curves and human outline. hailey shaw + jessica wu look out. fall/winter 2009.

on a whimsy

(images from style.com)
to keep you up with CURRENT (i told you this would be coming!) collections, i'm introducing LUELLA'S SPRING 2010 RTW collection.
to me, luella's whole look is solely based on whimsicality and girlishly cute style.
from style.com: "For this outing her clothes have become almost straightforward, in a mid-sixties Sunday-best sort of way. Stripping away the teeny, cutesy haberdashery of the collection had the effect of focusing attention on silhouettes: princess coats with Peter Pan collars, pannier dresses with padded hips, and various other devices lifted from the Balenciaga era Great Granny knew so well. If it hadn't been for the fact that Bartley's color palette was bright and cheerful—lemon, lipstick red, teal, camel, and sugar pink—and all the shapes were cut short and given a girlish raised waist, it could have been an uncharacteristically sober affair for a designer who's made her name by supplying a hearty dose of cheek to runway proceedings."
the choice of color and the fantatic pleats make this collection something of her aesthetic, but a different view of it. the soft palette of pastel hues really lightens up the whole look, and the choice of fabrics and prints are exquisite. i love how the colors range from primary pastels to strict black, white, and gray scale. the detail attention is great, i love the heart in the exposed chest of the black dress. while i normally dislike polka dots, the gray dress with huge black dots melt me. i love how whimsical, cannot NOT repeat this word, and fitted this dress is. the white blouse's silhouette is beautiful and the zipper (as you all know that i love) IS AMAZING. i just can't stress how much i love zippers. the last two dresses are simple chic, and the palette (my favorites for this season are neutrals mixed with blacks.. so there you go!) is just beyond great. topping it off with a bow just makes my day. this collection may have shown a different side to luella while keeping its' heart the same.

"The Show Must Go On"

(images from style.com)
i'm just not keeping to date with the most recent spring 2010 shows, (but i will, ok?) so here is D&G FALL 2009 RTW.
from style.com "Bustier dresses with lampshade miniskirts came in brocade, jewel-studded velvet, or tapestry-print chiffon, while a bustier top was paired with high-waisted jeans encrusted with big, colorful crystals. And because every diva needs a cape (a strong theme here in Milan), there was a version in ocelot-print ponyskin and another in gray fur with a collar that looked like chinchilla. The colors—ocher, burgundy, cadet blue, and black—were as lush and rich as the collection's furniture fabrics, but point d'esprit and tulle tutus in pastels worn with T-shirts printed with Callas' image lightened the mix."
all the beauties above fully match this criteria. to the max. when i first saw an ad for D&G's fall 2009 in Riviera Magazine, i freaked out. it was like opera house meets elegant chaise print and material. the heels are just gorgeous and the right size for the catwalk. sky-high and in my favorite colors, the pumps were icing on D&G's imaginative cake. the ingenious use of luxe furniture fabrics is so innovative and fresh. though i hated dolce and gabbana because of their notorious leopard print everything, this collection entirely blew me away. i can't get enough of bustiers and brocade, and silk makes me drool. the last gowns walking flowed like water, and the busts were different programs for different operas (correct me if i'm wrong) along with some very intricate appliques in the corner. several other pieces in the show included screen tees paired with the elegant and sleek silk skirts, topping everything off with tassels. superbly done.

let them eat cake

i might be craving sweets. just to let you wonderful followers know, my memory stick from my camera has been LOST (basically, in short, stolen by my naughty younger siblings and location forever unknown), so i'm waiting for another one, and hopefully i can do interesting posts without my camera. think cake. i found all these images on google, and i find them very sweet. the christopher kane dress is just APPEALING, i think it looks like an elegant cake with frosting draped on the sides. Marie Antoinette, duhh, kirsten dunst=great, costumes=super. i think i will go manic without these cute mini cake rings that everyone (umm.. asia i guess) is sporting. i love how intricate they are. how do you make it so dang realistic? cake is good. +ALSO, much thanks to emilia, for this post about me :D i love it! check it out here. xx

it's crunch time baby

school is killing me. i feel like i've been in it for months, ages, years, decades. when will it end? so i really hAVEN'T the time to blog about current outfits (like those lucky ones that have decent cameras and can snapshot every outfit they've ever worn) so i'm posting some of my favorites. the first is a what i like to call nature inspired outfit. very neutral and earthy tones, from the oatmeal colored sweaterdress to the rich chocolate riding boots. i added the feather fan for purposes unknown to even me (hey matches with the theme, right?) coincidentally, my green dress matches the curtain. hmm. i usually wear this dress with my gold strappy 2 inch heels from target ($11 sucka whatt), it really ties the whole "grecian goddess/asian(yup that's what i am) look." i really love the muted pastel green chiffon, it's super comfortable and makes me feel... like...a cloud. or something light and fluffy. feather? mmm.. i was being lazy with this outfit when i took it. simply a white but huge v-neck from chicago (we all got that?) probably my dad's, and some superly ripped tights that i wouldn't dare wear out for risk of "poser" slash "trying-to-be-goth." oh, what we do for ourselves. so when i have a chance, i may be just playing dress up (usually something close to what i wear often. other times, echchem outfit #3, will be out on a limb, but presentable. so there :D xx

tubular cowl mesh

the season has ended. the hot one. welll.. it's still pretty hot here in newport :/ i hate it. i just CAN'T WAIT to pile on the sweaters and layer. i need to get a good coat. preferably navy/black with gold/brass buttons. hmmmm... i'm pissed without my lace-up boots :( i need themmmmm! or i'll just get my brown leather riding boots fixed. so basically above is a summer outfit, the huge black tank top, sheer cobalt tight thingies, and my egyptian necklace. the beautiful second picture is greg kadel, DUH, and i think it's practically amazing. the last two are dresses from i presume hussein chalayan, correct me if you know/i'm wrong :]
these days... i just wish i had a better camera and better clothes. im killing myself without these items: black oxfords, black or navy fitted blazer, simple sandals (not everyone has those ones form UO), THOSE lace-up boots (damn, i think they're gone.), and a slouchy sweater. i'm stuck.

you could break my heart

the omnipotent transformable tartan dress i love it. found it in my sister's closet... WAYYYY up there. it was my mom's, and its actually a long long skirt :D that's what i do... all the time (i.e. james perse skirt into a strapless dress) i love it.. even though it's pretty long, i can also hitch it up (planning on sewing it into something cool later on... much later on..) that's me @ about 7. my great snow booties. oh gee. the weekend is GOOD. but i still have to do my laundry, some leftover homeworkkk, and stuff :/ just watched take the lead +no turning back - Sarah Blasko +habanera - Kate Nash +in my place - Coldplay +toxic - Yael Naim xx

turn me on with your electric feel

these lashes got me going crazy. i found the first picture in design craft class in WWD mag, and it really caught my eye. this mask card is one i made for my friend carly's birthday card :D ( because the theme was masquerade, i'm sorry i couldn't make it carly! :< ) made with cardstock, red construction paper, red feathers, black gemstone, and red silk cord my desktop, literally, with the lamp(ikea, love) and laptop desktop (default on my comp) and a huge collage on my wall :D yes. this is me. when i have time i will be posting outfit pictures, i think that's what makes my blog kinda boring :/ whateverrrs. xx

'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

i recently did a sketch of coco rocha (not my best, i did sasha pivovarova so much better) and here it is. the collar is kind of messed up, but i still count it as pretty good :D
i count some imperfections as her eyes being too far away from each other. i took a huge break from sketching, and this is my return. hopefully more come in the future.
the picture is from google images.

coco rocha=my fave. top 5 include- sasha pivovarova, siri tollerod, jessica stam, anabela belikova, and of course coco rochaaaa :D

the fourth picture is a sketch i did inspired by masquerades. simple black silhouette face with a water-colored mask and penciled hair.

another DIY it bag, for my friend nicolette :)

your thoughts please

sightless creatures tugging at our clothes

(google images)
these beauties from Armani Privé are my favorite of the moment. the fabrics just look so luxurious and touchable, i literally want to find one of these dresses and feel the texture (esp. the second and third dresses, so furry) this is the side of armani you never see in giorgio armani. the first dress is like you've rolled around in a field of sticky but gorgeous flowers. the second and third seem like cocktail dresses that have gone through much tar-and-feathering. i think the fourth one just looks like a wad of beautiful bacon. the last one is like red food coloring in water. i just love the texture and elegance in these pieces.

oh baby

so, you've probably guessed. this post is about BABY CLOTHING. i'm a freak when i walk into Baby Gap, everything there is just so damn cute. spotted: little black riding boots, little velvet magenta coat with brass buttons, little tiny gladiator sandals, little schoolgirl blazers. since i have 2 toddler siblings, i decided to showcase my favorite pieces from their closets (not anything different from ours). mostly consisting of Ralph Lauren and Paul Frank polos, plaid flannels, and schoolgirl skirts--their wardrobe is what i might have wished for in my early years. acid wash jacket. the cutest jacket ever, belongs to my baby brother. most of the time he's clad in polos and khakis, which still meet my standards (haha just kidding). cream sweater. seems a little mature (hey i would wear it), belongs to my baby sister. she'd wear this with her paul frank velour miniskirt and tights. what a cutie :) the most outrageous piece of child's clothing ever seen. i'm going to ask my sister to invent a machine that will blow things into larger proportions, because i NEED this blazer. i saw it in their closet, and was like 'why isn't that my size', immediately. the accents are wonderful, very band jacket-ish. white crinoline. okay maybe a tutu skirt, but its' still really cool. i probably wouldn't have the courage to wear crinoline, (uhh. halloween or something) but i love this, its verry flouncy. you're supposed to wear it under a dress so it poufs up like a princess :] my baby brother, johnny, wearing my mom's vintage YSL sunglasses. that's just how he rolls. oh baby babay, baby baby. xx

texturization

tex⋅ture [teks-cher] –noun 1. the visual and esp. tactile quality of a surface: rough texture. so i haven't come across anything QUITE interesting, and i haven't taken any pictures of my outfits. but I DO know what my next post is gonna be. (a little bizarre, but cool.) so this post is just a photo post. i've got different textures here (thus definition of texture) my eye with eyeliner and mascara. i love this picture A LOT. i added saturation to this so it really POPS. very bright. sequins on my dance recital costume sleeve. love sequins, wherever they appear. i took this picture, and some light decided to bounce off it. SWELL. white wooden heels ( from mother) on grass. this is the grass in my backyard. nuff said. Catalina water slash waves. basically, the pacific ocean. marine bio, still not helping me. GOSSIP GIRL ON TONIGHT.
