Dries Van Noten, the man

via style.com

van Noten's 57 piece collection was undoubtedly lovely yet confusing. I found his aesthetic jumping around from theme to theme, but in the end, it all pulled together for me. The monotony of the first sets of looks soon shifted with the HOT neon pink in the interim, giving way to the cool tropical prints. And who could forget about those jackets! The texture, detail, embellishment--it made me rethink cropped jackets.
The all too lovely mish mash of graphic prints was especially appealing--I loved the landscapes a la a darker Fragonard as well as the intensified images of water and illuminated city skylines--which he brought to life with jewels/gems on his coats! Pulled together by crisp, sleek silhouettes, the whole collection managed to flow beautifully.

Yay Paris Fashion Week!

400th Post, I'm a bad blogger

Yeah. So school is a bummer and I have many hours of homework a night, it's stressful and time consuming! I hope that I'll be able to post as much as possible in the future, but there is a great possibility that it won't be often (I will try to squeeze in 2 a week? maybe?)

Sorry, and thanks for all your understanding and support. It means the world to me!

SASS & BIDE SPRING '12 RTW

via style.com

Hints of tribal inspiration and explosive colors were all the rage at Sass & Bide.
I loved the intensive detailing on some of the tops, as well as the chic poky looking accessories.
I didn't have time to go back and cutout some of the ikat prints/other stuff, but the above 9 were my absolute favorites.
The last crop of looks were amazing as well--the gold collar necklaces with the elegant black ensembles--black and gold never fails!

Americana

COAT: mom
SHIRT: mom
SKIRT: mom
SHOES: no, not mom--urban outfitters.
HA.

So today's outfit is pretty patriotic, I feel like the military coat is reminiscent of the Revolutionary War era (idk...romantic ideals?) and very George Washington-esque. Maybe I'm wrong, but I still love the effect of the coat. It's so beautifully made and heavyweight, so it's not like it's a thin little blazer or anything--when I mean coat, I mean coat.

PS didja notice the new header? Isn't it just awesome!

It was made by the awesome Allen Chiu, whose tumblr you can find HERE.
*Applause for the future typographer and graphic design maniac/prodigy/breakthrough of the year.*

Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 RTW

via style.com

Prabal Gurung's recent collection truly blew me away. When I was writing my style notes, I found myself constantly picking up my pen to write new details that differed from the look before. Despite all the lovely intricacies and differences, I still found the entire collection quite cohesive, and beautifully at that.

The palette of cool purples and blues amidst stark white and black was refreshing and pleasing. I'm a sucker for digital prints/manipulation so I was well pleased with his symmetrical Rorschach-y multicolor prints splattered across the cloth like paint--which brings me to another point-how cool are those pants with the metallic "drips"?! They emanate a different kind of grunge chic... in all it's purple shiny-ness. I couldn't get enough of the wispy tendrils of fabric hanging on the sides of the all black and white dresses like angels' wings, so fairy-like.

It seemed like with every other look there was a different hue, color, texture, arrangement, or story being portrayed.
Well done, Prabal!

Thank GOD for sewing machines

BLOUSE: f21
SHORTS: altered by me
BAG: guess, my mom
SUNNIES: c/o Vagabond Youth
WEDGES: f21

Yes, the weather has finally cooled a bit so that i can wear a long sleeved blouse. BUT ON SATURDAY--WHAT THE HECK--it was hailing, serious hail, like chunks the size of quarters. I don't understand California weather and I don't think I ever will!

With weather cleared, I'm happy to also be able to sport my new shorts!
These were originally the UGLIEST capri flared pants (I'm sorry, I should have taken 'before' pictures!) that I hemmed into cute little hot pants/shorts.
I loved the enlarged floral print, so I knew that I couldn't just throw them away.
Can't wait for more sewing projects in the future!

meanwhile, I'm taking my Style Notes on NYFW in a frenzy--there's like 15 shows a day showing up!
Crazy!

Today, we remember

Today is the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
As an American, it is a bitter thing to remember the planes that crashed into the twin towers, killing thousands.
I was in 1st grade when it occurred, but I still remember the frenzy of everyone--we had watched it happen on TV, talked about it after school.

We pray for the families who have lost their dear ones in the attacks.

BLOUSE: TJ Maxx, $15!!!
SHORTS: vtg
BELT: f21

So today was the first day of school and it was actually pretty normal, which isn't normal to say.
My classes are all decent and the teachers are nice
I'm taking AP Art History, AP Government and Economics, AP Literature, ROP Entrepreneurship (which i'm stoked about), Journalism, and AP Calculus.
I have a packed schedule, but it's going to be great. I'm most excited about the Entrepreneurship class (learning the ropes of having a business) and Journalism (I get to write about fashion for the school paper!)

So I'll stop rambling and just stop.

L.A. FOR A DAY

BLOUSE: mom
SHORTS: F21
BELT: F21
SANDALS: UO
BAG: mom
SUNNIES: c/o VAGABOND YOUTH

I was in LA the entire day yesterday, museum/restaurant/The Grove strolling with my friend, Nico. We went to Bottega Louie for an early lunch and macarons and then headed to LACMA to do our APAH review. After some long hours at the museum we went to the Grove, where we saw Kathy Griffin (My Life on the D-list!!! haha) and Perez Hilton.

To make it short, yesterday was tiring but super fun.
