RESORT '14 III

J.W. ANDERSON Anderson's much-hyped collab with Versus x Versace has already put him at the forefront of fashion but in all honestly, I'd much rather forget about Donatella and focus on his stunning individual work. I am such a fan of his no-fuss, clean-cut, and almost clinical aesthetic. The basic geometry that is integral to his work is made interesting with his various textural pairings--from that crinkled vellum look of the translucent top to the fringey draped top and the paper-esque skirt. Also, who doesn't love over-the-top volume? 

STELLA MCCARTNEY I was crying at my instagram feed when it was filled with lovely snaps from McCartney's garden party showing for her equally beautiful resort collection in NYC. I loved the femininity of the pieces and the adorable details (see: lips, hearts, matches, diamante pieces on that kitschy blush frock) as well as the various silhouettes. I never thought there would come a day that a ruched waistline/drop-waist would ever look as good as the one in the third look. 

OPENING CEREMONY I don't think I will ever get over my obsession of voluminous, rounded sleeves. IRL, it's probably one of the hardest things to pull off (if you're a model, no biggie, but for the rest of us...). It's been done by so many for quite a few seasons now but it's still a silhouette I love. Do it in an ice blue and stick it in a collection with perfectly contrasting sharply cut skirts and I'll fall in love. I'm quite obsessed with the buckle/strap fixtures on the jackets and skirts too (DIY anyone?).

THOM BROWNE

I don't know why, but Browne's pieces always remind me of Alice in Wonderland. I think the imagery that's installed in my mind courtesy of Disney just seems to correlate with his otherworldly and whimsical touch. This collection had me thinking of maze gardens and the Cheshire Cat with the various green hues, organic motifs, and endless stripes. No matter how weird or unwearable his looks may be, they're always extremely fun to ponder.

PETER PILOTTO Digital prints have, and will likely for a long time to come, always been a favorite of mine. I loved the use of nature and floral patterns on boxy dresses and angular sleeves. PFW | FW13 part V

 DION LEE

Lee has been one of my favorite designers to watch ever since Tommy Tom profiled one of his incredible collections at Australia fashion week a while ago. With a penchant for sharp, angular constructions and insanely cool graphic prints (note--those atmosphere storm pics!), Lee still manages to bring something fresh and eye-catching to the table each season. Something about the cut of his pieces is just so refreshing and aesthetically pleasing. 

 GIAMBATTISTA VALLI

I will admit that I found little to no cohesion throughout this collection, but that I loved some of the looks individually. The array of grecian drapery and furry patch looks in muted pastels caught my attention, but it was the vibrant vermillion look that kept me clicking. A floral pantsuit and intricately beaded neckline don't hurt either. 

 CHLOE

I was intrigued by the effortless mood that Keller created in this fall collection (almost had a spring-y feel to it!). From the airy swiss-dots in paneled blouses and tutu-skirts to the amazing chain-link fence dress (still swooning), the pieces spoke to the Chloe heritage but maintained an air of updated modernity. 

 PACO RABANNE

I think we all know Paco Rabanne for his chain-mail dresses. It was great seeing a fresh reinvention of such a unique piece in different ways, seeing that it became a collared shirtdress and jumpsuit (or so I see?). Also, that intricately pleated silver skirt is everything. 

STELLA MCCARTNEY I need to get the major shoe vibes out of the way before I speak about the collection. Anything platform-tread-sole captures my attention like nothing else.  As for McCartney's collection, I enjoyed the effortless draping and comfortable aura to the well-tailored pieces. The superimposing of aspects like tartan and pinstripes onto exaggerated silhouettes all in the spirit of menswear was what drew me in. Also, you all probably know by now that rounded sleeves and bulky volume are my thing.

PRE-FALL '13 Loves III

STELLA MCCARTNEY With a nod to her FW12 collection that featured beautiful baroque scroll and floral motif embroidery, this collection is equally as bold. She expanded her palette into the warm colors by welcoming a pair of hot orange trousers peeking out from an oversize camel coat (not pictured), and then ended with a beautiful colorblocked gown patched with a surprise block of velvet. 

TIBI This collection definitely encompassed the city girl roaming the concrete jungle during fashion week, IMO. Casual basics were presented in ultra luxe materials and cut to a tee. The neon accented buildings in the skyscape pants are fantastic, as are those lust-worthy ankle boots. Pointy black ankle boots just GET ME.

CELINE Of course, Phoebe did it again. This prefall season has really made me dwell in my oversized black coat   more often lately, and I'm loving it. Larger than life (and perhaps wearability) proportions contrasted with sharply tailored skirts, trousers, and blouses make for a great collection if you ask me. Also, can we talk about those grand platform wedges please?!

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN Sarah Burton continues to give off more good vibes with the most recent collection. There was the same drama and dignified elegance (without frivolity) in the strong, and almost basic, silhouettes. The most difficult thing was trying to get a single theme out of this collection. I saw a pilgrim -vampire-victorian era-snow queen, what do you see?

ACNE I wasn't really feeling the collection until I examined it in its entirety. The gradual transition from sharp lines and an austere palette to puffy, almost frothy, silhouettes and a last delicate floral number was what persuaded me. I would also like to one of the comforter-esque coats and the two buckled ankle boots, please.
