braidy bunch

(pictures from LA TIMES' fashion mag)
SAD AND HAPPY
this is the last DIY of summer. look at the nav bar on the right screen and you will discover that more than half of the DIYS are from summer '09. *SOB* i hope i will have enough time to do more in th future. i did this in an easy 20 minutes. the first photo is actually the FINAL necklace ( i just edited this post ) with three tiers of braids, ranging from large to small. the next picture is the original necklace with only one large braid. the 3rd picture is a large braid with another necklace underneath it (i made it for my sister)
PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU ARE GOING TO POST THIS DIY ON YOUR BLOG, THANKS. (I AM ONLY DOING THIS FOR my own ORIGINAL IDEAS, IF I DIDN'T GET THE IDEA OFF SOMEONE ELSE, THEN I WILL WRITE THIS ON THE DIY POST).
you will need -scissors
-3 different colored, patterned old teeshirts
-chains
-metal pliers
-a pushpin/something sharp. needle maybe
-and lobster clasp and hook if you wish to have it chokerish
grab your teeshirts and flatten them out, then cut strips about 1-2 inches thick. cut one strip from each teeshirt, and grab a rubber band or hairtie and tie the top so you can braid without hassle. then you can braid the fabric (try braiding it flatly, or the fabric will stand up and not keep flat when you wear the necklace) all the way until you have about 2 inches left. then use a loose piece of cloth and tie a knot around all 3 strands, doing the same with the other rubber banded side. when you are done, you should have a braided dog toy-looking type of thing (courtesy my mother's comments). take a pushpin and stab it through the loose ends of each side of the braid. make sure it is close enough to the end of the fabric so that you can hook a chain through it. then, grab your pliers and open up the end of a chain and hook it into the hole, then close it. grab the other side of the chain and do so as well on the other side of the braid. you can also separate the chain from the middle after and add you lobster hook and clasp. there you have it!
so, i just came across these beautiful pictures from LA (LA TIMES' fashion mag) and and the ads and topics in it are just WONDERFUL. and sorry that my pictures aren't right side up :P
the first picture is the cover (great cuffs)
the second picture is issey miyake's supercool shirtdress thingy
the third picture (getting repetitive!) haha, is alexander wang runway pics
the fourth and fifth are under something called "50 first dresses," basically, the first dresses of fifty different designers. school starts in two days. bother
