RESORT '14 IV

MARY KATRANTZOU
Picturesque HDR landscape views and architectural grids on beautifully cut garments? I'll take one of everything. The clash of Mother Nature and manmade structures is seamless in the pairings, from the flower field jacket and the high-rise windowed wrap skirt the contrast of the rose trellis skirt and the structure on the bodice. Another bravo to Katrantzou for successfully executing digital prints season after season.

CHRISTOPHER KANE
Literally every piece in this collection was art. I need that sheer black paneled blouse in the first look in my wardrobe now. I loved the use of the twig-like overlay in the red skirtsuit and the incredible crochet looking flowers and female torsos (who would have thought a naked lady would look so good on a dress?) The primary color palette was a great choice.
Also, congrats to Alexia @ IMG for modeling the collection--she was one of the first models I tested with last year! Bigger things are coming for her, she's got an amazing look.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
A good deviation from frilly and poofy, Burton's resort collection for McQueen was relaxed and chill in all the right ways. The big boxy pockets with flaps looked so good on the outerwear, blouses, and bottoms (I am in LOVE with those dark camel suede? shorts). I got a lot of casual "safari" vibes (in a fabulous way) from the earthy toned pieces. Again, those crop tops making me want to sport them all summer...

PORTS 1961
I've already previously expressed my affinity for "winter whites" in cruise looks and Ports 1961's collection reaffirms that notion 100%. An all white canvas can be so interesting, especially when used in structured pieces like that many pocketed anorak and in mixed textures of, say, silks and knits. Bright florals contrasted with solid colors is great too!

So June is like the worst month for fashion followers because we've got Resort still going on, Menswear currently going steady, and Couture coming up.
So, I'm sorry if I cause any confusion with my mixed posts!
More coming soon :)

MENSWEAR SS14 | London Collections: Men

CHRISTOPHER SHANNON
First of all, let's all dump glitter on our hair--it's such a summer look (50% serious because I LOVE IT, 50% joking because it takes days to wash that stuff out). Second, discuss these pieces! Anything sheer or translucent and/or in brights/pastels instantly screams SS to me. I'm obsessed with the different textures and graphics from the logo'd crewneck and patent bermuda pairing to that incredible be-zippered, and convertible I presume (NEED), floral jacket. One of my top collections from LCM.

 ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
I believe gender-bending is a normal occurrence in the current state of menswear, but Burton executed it in an impeccable and classy way while adhering to stunning Savile Row tailoring. I liked the transition from breezy layers of creams, whites, and airy lace to the more structured looks in darker palettes and embellishments. Reminiscent of last season's cathedral window suits, the prints were once again striking in wrought iron-like figures, floral silhouettes on pinstripes, and metallic flourishes.

AGI & SAM
When a collection can traverse a variety of aesthetics while managing to stay cohesive, it's safe to say that my interest is engaged from start to finish. In Agi & Sam's latest work, we saw quirky (neo-80s, should I say?) printed suits that were paired with solid whites, then a transition to blocks of relaxing blue hues. I found the transference of a pair of shorts and tee onto an all white base both comical and aesthetically interesting. The last look done in a utilitarian style has me wanting anything windbreaker material.

BOBBY ABLEY
Yes, those are the birds from your childhood tear jerker Bambi. They bedecked the garments of Abley's collection for MAN alongside cartooned fleur-de-lys and teddy bear silhouettes on muted pastels. All in a kitschy youthfulness, the models donned paper crowns, held book-like clutches, and wore backpacks--stylish of course.  I would wear that sheer striping in an instant!
Not pictured: the "THE END" fluffy sleeveless top, on my imaginary wishlist.

XANDER ZHOU
(please excuse the fuzzy pictures, I got them from nowfashion.com live stream because Style.com did not cover this collection)
One of the few collections that I was able to watch in real time, I was already feeling impressed when the first three looks rolled out. The curved edges on the jackets and other pieces mixed with various panels of fabric was so visually interesting, almost like a Braque work or other Cubists. My favorite part of Zhou's collection, however, was the incredible digital print coats in the end. The mash up of Facebook, Youtube, iPhone, and Captcha graphics is super tech and style savvy. The cool metal collars make me want to resurrect mine.

PRE-FALL '13 Loves III

STELLA MCCARTNEY
With a nod to her FW12 collection that featured beautiful baroque scroll and floral motif embroidery, this collection is equally as bold. She expanded her palette into the warm colors by welcoming a pair of hot orange trousers peeking out from an oversize camel coat (not pictured), and then ended with a beautiful colorblocked gown patched with a surprise block of velvet.
TIBI
This collection definitely encompassed the city girl roaming the concrete jungle during fashion week, IMO. Casual basics were presented in ultra luxe materials and cut to a tee. The neon accented buildings in the skyscape pants are fantastic, as are those lust-worthy ankle boots. Pointy black ankle boots just GET ME.
CELINE
Of course, Phoebe did it again. This prefall season has really made me dwell in my oversized black coat   more often lately, and I'm loving it. Larger than life (and perhaps wearability) proportions contrasted with sharply tailored skirts, trousers, and blouses make for a great collection if you ask me. Also, can we talk about those grand platform wedges please?!
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Sarah Burton continues to give off more good vibes with the most recent collection. There was the same drama and dignified elegance (without frivolity) in the strong, and almost basic, silhouettes.
The most difficult thing was trying to get a single theme out of this collection. I saw a pilgrim -vampire-victorian era-snow queen, what do you see?
ACNE
I wasn't really feeling the collection until I examined it in its entirety. The gradual transition from sharp lines and an austere palette to puffy, almost frothy, silhouettes and a last delicate floral number was what persuaded me. I would also like to one of the comforter-esque coats and the two buckled ankle boots, please.
