EDITORIAL | Twins

I fell in love with this story for SSAW Magazine featuring Miles McMillan and Hirschy Hirschfelder shot by Bjarne Johansson and styled by Oscar Lange after seeing it on TheFashionisto
The clean cut androgynous pieces in this editorial are making me want to drape myself in tailored men's pieces, a few sizes larger for an oversized, slouchy feel.

RESORT '14 IV

MARY KATRANTZOU
Picturesque HDR landscape views and architectural grids on beautifully cut garments? I'll take one of everything. The clash of Mother Nature and manmade structures is seamless in the pairings, from the flower field jacket and the high-rise windowed wrap skirt the contrast of the rose trellis skirt and the structure on the bodice. Another bravo to Katrantzou for successfully executing digital prints season after season.

CHRISTOPHER KANE
Literally every piece in this collection was art. I need that sheer black paneled blouse in the first look in my wardrobe now. I loved the use of the twig-like overlay in the red skirtsuit and the incredible crochet looking flowers and female torsos (who would have thought a naked lady would look so good on a dress?) The primary color palette was a great choice.
Also, congrats to Alexia @ IMG for modeling the collection--she was one of the first models I tested with last year! Bigger things are coming for her, she's got an amazing look.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
A good deviation from frilly and poofy, Burton's resort collection for McQueen was relaxed and chill in all the right ways. The big boxy pockets with flaps looked so good on the outerwear, blouses, and bottoms (I am in LOVE with those dark camel suede? shorts). I got a lot of casual "safari" vibes (in a fabulous way) from the earthy toned pieces. Again, those crop tops making me want to sport them all summer...

PORTS 1961
I've already previously expressed my affinity for "winter whites" in cruise looks and Ports 1961's collection reaffirms that notion 100%. An all white canvas can be so interesting, especially when used in structured pieces like that many pocketed anorak and in mixed textures of, say, silks and knits. Bright florals contrasted with solid colors is great too!

So June is like the worst month for fashion followers because we've got Resort still going on, Menswear currently going steady, and Couture coming up.
So, I'm sorry if I cause any confusion with my mixed posts!
More coming soon :)

DESIGNER PROFILES | Daniel Silverstain

 images via Daniel.Silverstain

Every day I walk to school, I am reminded of how truly astonishing it is to be immersed in an environment that is flowing with creativity and innovation.

I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Daniel Silverstain for my internship and later learned that he was a graduating from the fashion design program at FIT. I also came across his work on the Muuse site, where his gorgeous capsule collection is now up for pre-sale!

One can see the evident reference to the grid layout of the island of Manhattan in his architecturally beautiful constructions; I love the influence of the city in his pieces. Also, the palette of pure white, beige, and stunning shades of blue is so clean and fresh!

(capsule) Weekend | part I

The AW13 Capsule show this past weekend marked my first tradeshow ever! If you've heard of WWD Magic, it's essentially the same thing. Hundreds of amazing vendors, designers, and showrooms of all sorts congregated at Pier 36 and Center 548 among other locations. I discovered a bunch of new designers that I will be keeping tabs on; it was great interacting with the different representatives they had at each "booth." Below are my some shots from my first day (I'll be posting the second half soon!)

Antipodium is one of my favorite Australian labels--I find Australian boutique brands to have phenomenal tailoring and construction. I loved how the simple silhouettes were given a kitschy twist with that amazing print, vibrant colors, and cool textures.

Digital prints are everywhere, but this blouse caught my attention because of its nature print (which resembles the nature reserve across from my house in California). Also, I could not stop staring at these paperbag-waist leather trousers.

I had the pleasure of meeting Samantha at her FW13 preview, and she is one of the most down-to-earth designers I've ever met! It is honestly so amazing to meet the face behind the label.
Remember her spectacular line with Urban Outfitters (I literally wanted everything)? Well, her fw13 collection is nothing short of incredible. The first image you see is a twisted waist cutout detailing on a maxi dress.  I also love the paint/ink blot print on the blouses.

I was immediately attracted to this collection as soon as I saw those rough edged panel cuffs. There was a sense of rawness in the pieces yet they were still elegant and polished. I die for that two-finger ring and all the delicate little accents (those tiny spikes!) throughout the collection.
See more of my coverage tomorrow!

LFW | FW13 part II

 PETER PILOTTO
I think it's safe to say that Pilotto has captivated me and stunned me season after season with his beautiful digital renderings on beautifully constructed garments. The strong linear motifs, geometric fragments, and symmetrical prints that bedeck his bold silhouettes seem to always resonate deeply within me. To say it simply, Pilotto's collections are always an aesthetic treat for my eyes.
J.W. ANDERSON
Anderson's womenswear collection seemed to have inklings of the same vibe from his most recent line for menswear. Drawing on the same sort of restrained and almost matronly feminity, we saw those crisp  lines and boxy shapes, all topped off with fine details (the darted necklines and gathering of the fabric in unexpected places-perfection). The purist color palette of black and white with occasional pops of color really maximized the voice of this collection, too.
CHRISTOPHER KANE
Major points for Prabal and Christopher this season for successfully pulling off military this season--call it neo-military. I loved the way he meshed the lustrous fabric with camouflage and how he took the motif of trim of an 18th century soldier's coat and created that trellis-like pattern and executed an edgy minidress. The texture in the last frock was also phenomenal.
SIMONE ROCHA
It was girly and delicately feminine without the major frills and over-pinkification. A fabulous bounty of clean-cut coats in different pinks lead the collection then gave way to my favorite part of this collection, the one-hipped ruffle. It came in that floaty eyelet rendition as well as sparkly black towards the end, fitting beautifully with the plush cream fur.
NICOLE FARHI
This collection may as well be my definition of true RTW. Really fantastic basics cut to a tee, swoon-worthy color palette, and the INCREDIBLE footwear had me wanting to go out and purchase as many coats and knits as possible, stat. We get a magnificent lesson in layering here, with the gorgeously structured coats stacked upon multicolored sweaters upon crisp button ups--and then those great trousers below. #goals.

COUTURE SPRING 2013

 ALEXIS MABILLE
Frothy, feminine silhouettes and saccharine colors were truly the defining points of this collection. I especially loved the lace patches and lattice details coupled with languid skirts. For some reason, the knotted belts seemed to complement rather than distract or throw off the cohesion of the collection; they were a great component for the gowns and blouses.
 CHANEL
Karl really hit many different points in this collection but maintained an elegant composure all throughout. I was most intrigued by the juxtaposition of hard and soft in all of the pieces--from the angular sleeves in off-the-shoulder pieces and clean hemlines to the wispy sheer fabrics and frothy floral embellishments. Personally, Chanel couture is either hit or miss for me, but I especially enjoyed this collection (only after I looked at it in its entirety and for a second time, haha).
CHRISTIAN DIOR
With this being Raf Simons' only second couture collection for the House of Dior, I found myself comparing it to his initial one and also going back to his days at Jil Sander. Naturally, there were a plethora of similarities regarding his general aesthetic--the elegantly structured skirts of his gowns, his toying with volume in drapery, and the like. There was just something about the textures and hues of these pieces that spoke to me. Simons also covered an astonishing palette that spanned from dark navies to happy brights, muted tones, and gentle pastels. That yellow gown especially, it's definitely a dream dress.
MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
Oh MMM, always presenting something that confuses and provokes the mind to ponder what we really see. The first two looks I chose were a seemingly simple but then later complex composition of lines, textures, and fabrics that seemed to move fluidly on the body. I found the third look to be an unsuspecting mix; the lapel and the zipper details were almost shocking to see in the elegance of the sequined gown with cascading spiral motifs. Looks four and five were also very entertaining; the geometric bodice of the fourth seemed to have bloomed organic shapes while the bandeau of the fifth exploded with a hodgepodge of feathers and metallic bits. And then, we ended with a pinata like frock made of thousands of candy wrappers. Wildly fascinating.

Blogger Bonanza | SHOUT - Get in the Mix

TOP: c/o Bohemia Boutiques | SKIRT: c/o sugarlips | CLUTCH: my friend Sophie | HEELS: Target
How does one pose with a clutch? By clutching it, I'm sure. So my poses may be repetitive/awkward, but  much thanks to Nicolette Battista for patiently capturing them while I yelled "over there! that's a good place!" :)
I also just received this skirt from Sugarlips the other day, and I'm in love with it! The skirt is actually supposed to have a diagonal colorblock pattern, but I moved it so it was like a chevron. The pleats and the colors are absolutely fantastic! (Get the skirt here)
These photos were from tonight's adventures - I was invited to attend an OC blogger mixer-esque event at the OC Mart Mix in Costa Mesa. The night was filled with raffles (I won a dress :D), delicious goodies (Brie & honey crostini from the Cheese Shop was AMAZING, 'lette macarons, ), DIY accessories, photo booth, and a ton of fun bloggy-ness.
Thank you to Shout PR for an awesome night!
