An Unconventional Holiday Outfit

this is, from the title, a completely unconventional holiday outfit. but of course since i received my boots in the mail yesterday (YES, i am fully aware that i am about half a year off of the combat boot trend, whatever), i wanted to create a look that wasn't so "christmas-y".

the sketches were done at my grandparents house during my last visit. i'm thinking of putting some of them into my portfolio... which ones ?

FIRST, there are three things to excuse.
1.) my horrendous posting during these last months. love you readers!
2.) my weird poses in the above pictures.... i was becoming un-accustomed to posing in front of a camera. ha.
3.) what looks like a food baby in that skirt (that's one of the downsides of bandage skirts -___-)

SECOND,
thank you ALL so much for being a part of the past year's blogging experience. it has given me true joy to make friends and acquaintances through this blog, as well as receiving some presents ;) everytime i am down i look back at this page and it inspires me to go on--as does looking at your guys' blogs too.

THIRD,

DRIFTING ASTRAY

i drew this yesterday, a look from RODARTE'S FALL 2009 COLLECTION, for my friend nicolette. i liked sketching this because it ws a challenge: the beautiful marbled texture on the minidress, and the tons of leather wraps on the gorgeous nicholas kirkwood thigh high boots. i added different colors in the minidress and tried to make it look like it was  swathed in chiffon. how do you think it turned out?

(oops, i forgot to outline the sketch in ink ! i'll redo it later, nico :D)

&&& oh how i NEED those gold foil brogues. you have no idea.

UP UP AND AWAY

so i finally finished the sketch for my winner! Annelise chose a look from Fendi's Spring 2010 RTW collection, and i sketched it. i used ink, watercolour, and pencil for the sketch. how do you think it came out? I actually LOVE it a lot :] the textures and ballooning material made it a fun piece to draw!

the last picture is a necklace that i repainted! i'm really happy with the outcome. it was originally ice blue and white beads, but i couldn't ever match anything with the ice blue, so i decided to repaint it. i left half of the diamonds white though, because i like it that way!

MAKIN' YOUR HEAD WORK,

yay! i have FINALLY done another sketch(es) since forever. this time i was inspired by flouncy appliques and bright primary colors. i used a lighter version of cobalt blue and some vibrant yellow for these 3 pieces. the first piece is a yellow asymmetrical dress with the appliques that are the base of this mini-series. the appliques cascade down from the left shoulder down to the high waist, and circle all the way to the back, as you can see in the small side drawing. the blue mini cocktail dress also plays with the applique idea. i drew a sweetheart neckline in the darkest shade of cobalt, then added the texture and volume in the skirt of the piece, and finally drew everything together and calmed it down with a lighter shade of the color to close the skirt. my final sketch is also an asymmetrical off-the-shoulder top, accompanied by the same playful yet straight edged appliques this time going all the way down across the waist. there is a side of the skirt of the dress that also has a little triangle of these appliques.

+++my outfit for today:

i was snooping in my mother's closet and found this: a dark hunter-ish/forest green teeshirt dress. I ADORE IT. the color of it seems to have washed out, and i like how when i rolled up the sleeves, the original dark hue contrasted with the light outer color. it also has a pocket, hooray for pockets! i paired it with sheer black tights, a DIY black blossom bracelet that i will get a focused picture on next post (remind me!), and a black belt, and perhaps my moto jacket from H&M. such a comfy and casual chic outfit.

a very merry unbirthday to me... in 2 days

yesterday night was PRICELESS. because it was my unbirthday (actually 2 days until my REAL birthday) & we ate at cheesecake factory and walked around for about 2 hours. then: i received a brand new wrapped issue of VOGUE NIPPON!@#$@#$ and also something called the Teen Vogue Handbook . thanks, NB! love them both to death. also, we found out that fashion island just opened a Y-3 and my friend had the same last name as him so we HAD to take a picture in front of the store, which as very sleek an minimal with white shelves everywhere. the last picture is a piece i've been doing since 3 days ago. they are different legs and arms in different positions, such as bent legs, pointed legs, flexed feet, fists, pointing fingers, etc. i really love this piece because its' very eccentric, unlike things i've done before. there are also different patterns on each part, which took quite some time to think up, but the results are AMAZING. your thoughts please! xx

the desire i first tried to hide

these sketches are the first watercolours/sketches i've done in way too long. so the first piece is basically very structured and defined in cut with super sharp edges. i love the idea of strong/jutting out shoulders. one thing i really love about this sketch is the HAIR. haha, i never do detail on hair, but i guess i was bored and so i added some color (i think red hair is so pretty) and added some volume and a little bit of frizz (that actually looks good). the 2nd piece is something i reall like to do, just a side profile with a black silhouette of the face and some watercolour for the hair. i actually made this photo into a blog award, which i will soon be distributing(!! yay !!) i added some cool fonts and curved the edges, so watch out, readers, i just may choose your lovely little blog :D

collaboration sensation

for those who really know me, human relationship wise, you may have heard a "jessica wu/hailey shaw collaboration" buzz circling around. well, IT'S TRUE !!! today was our first meeting, marked by my constant snapping of the pictures above. i have a video, and i will post it as soon as photobucket lets me. here's a bit of our aesthetic mixed together. THINK FALL. rich, vivid, and muted tones. khakis, chiffons, silks, and a hint of fur. lace and sheer materials. exercised use of vintage to new. embellished tights and wood bangles. our color palette ranges from muted yellows to rich and deep browns. our fabric use is expansive and innovative. the silhouettes range from loose fitted to hugging the curves and human outline. hailey shaw + jessica wu look out. fall/winter 2009.

'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

i recently did a sketch of coco rocha (not my best, i did sasha pivovarova so much better) and here it is. the collar is kind of messed up, but i still count it as pretty good :D

i count some imperfections as her eyes being too far away from each other. i took a huge break from sketching, and this is my return. hopefully more come in the future.
